Horizon Wars: Zero Dark Absolutely the best solo skirmish system I have played! Elegant yet detailed in the systems approach. Totally addicted. The author has an excellent knack for story telling as well! Can't wait for more from this publisher!

Grimdark Future - Full Rulebook

Grimdark Future - Full Rulebook Excellent set of rules for Warhammer 40,000 style combat. There a few differences, such as alternate unit activiations which mean players don't get bored between turns. Fairly simple rules make for fun and fast games. But alternate activation makes it a much more challenging game tactically. Army 'books' (lists) are free to download and you can create your own units using the offical points calculator. You can use all your existing 40K armies or chose from some of the different/original factions. Overall, the best 28mm sci-fi wargames rules around....

E-Z DUNGEONS: Expansion Set 5 Well detailed, easy construction. Pick this up if you want 3D objects for your table (the crates especially useful for so many city scenes). It's fun to think three-dimensionally during a game.

T.W.E.R.P.S. Basic Rules (2nd Edition)
by James B.
Publisher: Zocchi's Games
Date Added: 01/02/2022 23:49:26
T.W.E.R.P.S. Basic Rules (2nd Edition) An extremely simple RPG system, where your character has one statistic (Strength) which is used for nearly everything in an adventure - attack and defense, health, turn order, and so forth. The resulting system is elegant, and perfectly serviceable for quick pickup games, but probably won't satisfy folks who want anything even a little detailed. Note that the actual rules only take up a little over two pages; the first and largest part of the booklet is taken up by a sample adventure, in which you learn the TWERPS rules as you go. This shows off the potential of the system, but playing this as intended could be frustrating, if a player tries to improvise anything before its example comes up in the adventure. (As such, the GM should probably read through the rules section before running the scenario, just in case.) The scenario itself (which is full of punny names) is a riff on pulp adventure stories, to the point of some cringe-y bits with natives, although it's OK beyond ...

Heroic Maps - Storeys: The Ruins of Baroncliffe Castle

Heroic Maps - Storeys: The Ruins of Baroncliffe Castle Great artwork as always. Solid, BEAUTIFUL stuff. Keep up the excellent work. The only drawback was that this one was exceptionally difficult to use on a virtual tabletop (VTT) system. The grid and walls didn't line up well. Without right angles, I wasn't able to easily use dynamic lighting with it. Unfortunately, I ended up scrapping the map because the difficult angles took too much time. All in all, still satisfied. :) Using Roll20.

Free Stock Art - 10 Generic Fantasy Items Very colorful. You get a crown banner, a horn, a sword leaning on a boulder (?), a morningstar, an insect amulet, a rune-engraved ring, a shield, another sword with a funky green flourescent background, a lion banner, and a drum.

Heroic Maps - Modular Kit: Desert City - Houses Very nice set of maps that do well to give an Arabian feel to the building interiors. The only puzzle is that although the kit is advertized as having 14 interiors, and the overview shown has only 14 interiors, the overviews that are included with the products show a 15th interior, which does not have a full-scale tile. Was just wondering what was up with that.

Anaconda: Naval Warfare On The Mississippi River And Gulf Coast 1862-1863 Excellent vehicle for creating encounters between flotillas of ACW warships on the Missussippi. This would be very good for a club looking for a ACW naval campaign. The battles do tend to be a bit large, but that will enable everyone in the club to get at least some vessels to command. See the additional material I created for this in Board Game Geek.

Five Klicks From the Zone Chapter 1

Five Klicks From the Zone Chapter 1 I got into Five Klicks because I liked the idea of a solo game set in a post-apocalypse that focuses on fighting your way up from the bottom in a world circling the drain. What I got was a hobby I now love, and a gateway to so much more. I've played almost fifty campaign turns between my main campaign and other, differently-flavored campaigns using the same system, and I've loved every minute of it all. Absolutely my most favourite game ever, and I'm excited to see even more content for it in the future. ...

Five Parsecs From Home - Solo Adventure Wargaming
by Sigmund N.

Five Parsecs From Home - Solo Adventure Wargaming Great solo game, and I'd think it'd be great for multiple players as well- both cooperative and going head-to-head. The campaign system is inspired, and it takes very little imagination to get a good story going in your head. If I were to complain about anything, it's that XP costs for upgrades is a bit low, as characters get very powerful very soon. And maybe it's a bit too easy to get patrons. Easily fixed with houserules though. If I could ask the author to fix just _one_ thing, it would be to make a Crew Log sheet with space for an extra weapon for each crew members - they can carry 3 weapons (although one has to be a blade or pistol), and there's only room for two. If you don't like playing with miniatures, just draw up random battlefields on a piece of grid paper and use a pencil to show positions. That's what I did, and it works great. Best solo RPG/Miniatures game I've ever played....
