ADD TO WISHLIST >

"Rise up and free your country from its oppressors!"

  • Simple fast-play rules for man-to-man, modern skirmish warfare
  • Complete campaign system allowing rival factions to war for control of their fictional or historical country
  • Special rules & descriptions for 6 faction types drawn from 20th - 21st century History
  • Point system allowing balanced battles between Elite, Regular, or Militia troop types
  • Three sample scenarios and guidelines for adapting historical actions
  • Political scheming, Permanent Institutions (like radio stations), & more!

With Wars of Insurgency, players control 3-5 squads that can range in size from 3 figures or one vehicle to a dozen men. Each miniature represents one man. The rules can easily be used for 15mm, 20mm, and 28mm scales without modification of ranges. The rules are meant to give the flavor of modern infantry firefights without being overwhelmed by complexity. First Command Wargames rules are meant to provide a fast, easy-to-learn game for the new or veteran player.

They will certainly work for the Vietnam War. You may need to kit bash some rules for off-board artillery fire to really give the flavor of Vietnam. I find that if you are playing with Professional squads, you can get by with just a few squads of 4-6 figures each. For multiplayer games, I typically give each player 3-4 squads. A Regular force may 3 infantry squads with 6 smalls, 1 LMG, and 1 RPG. For Militia forces, I may up this to 8 small arms plus the two support weapons. Professionals may go down to 4 figs -- 3 small arms and 1 LMG or RPG. That's about the minimum sized forces I tend to give players in most games. Obviously, the more players, the fewer squads to make it move quicker. The fewer players the more you can give them. I *do* have rules written but not published for rotary and fixed wing aircraft. Feel free to give my your email and I will send them your way...!

Hi there, I'm interested in what these rules provide, will they handle the Vietnam War and what's the minimum number of figures you can play a fun game with? (I'm just starting to collect Vietnam so I'd like to know what I'll need to paint and prepare)

I bought these rules a couple of years ago and have played more than 20 games. A number of us have them and thoroughly enjoy the way they play.

Recent customer, the game looks great however im only in the stages of inital browsing, and had some questions.

I noticed a couple pictures of nice SAS models in the text which has me wondering, how would one handle Foreign Internal Defense and Unconventional Warfare Units like Green Berets or other Western Military Units in this system? Would they just be Professional Troops attached to their supported faction?

Would these rules be useable for playing the current conflicts in Syria and other mideastern nations or would you say the combat in the prior is too conventional for this game's scope?

Thank you for this fascinating product and any answers you can provide.

I looked over the rules I got from Lulu and wanted to confirm there are no rules for tanks, helicopters, or vehicle facing. Did I miss something?

Thanks for the purchase, Jeremy! The rules allow you to customize whatever vehicle you want by choosing categories and adding weapons. For example, you could create a tank by purchasing an armored vehicle with recoilless rifle (and HMG/LMG, if you wish). If you want it to be thicker or thinner armored, give it more/less than the +6 DD. A helicopter could be a "flying jeep" with appropriate HMG/LMG. Or if you want a gunship, perhaps even a flying armored vehicle? Definitely give +1 DD to flying vehicles, much like we do with fast-moving ones. You could even let the player controlling the helicopter dictate his altitude to determine range (for example, stay out of small arms or RPG fire). I did not playtest point costs for helicopters, but although they gain the tactical ability to stay out of range, they lose any other cover that ground vehicles could take advantage of...so I wouldn't start with them being too much more expensive. Maybe 50%? Feel free to email me at: mikedemana@earthlink.net if you have...See more

Hi,
Just bought this, I'm always after Modern African wargame rules, spent my childhood in East Africa in the 70's. I was just wondering if it's possible to have Game wardens and Poachers in a scenario. Its another passion of mine, African conservation and i like to try and bring it into my wargames.

Cheers
Jeff

WoI reads a lot like a streamlined and updated 3. edition of Peter Pig's AK-47. This is a good thing, although I intend to use 3 mm minis just for the convenience of it.

Hi Chris! I'm glad you like the rules. I would agree there are some parallels in the campaign and faction rules. However, the combat rules are a different animal entirely, IMO. AK-47 has multi-base stands and is very stylized, while with Wars of Insurgency you're doing man-to-man skirmish and picking individual targets and shooting and killing them. Thanks for the purchase, by the way, Chris!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
